King salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha)The King salmon thrives in the firtile coastal areas of the Pacific ocean. The fish has a blue-green back, silvery sides and white ventral surfaces. The tail and the upper half of its body are scattered with dark stains and the mouth is a dark grey. When the fish reaches the spawning phase towards the end of its life cycle, it returns to the rivers where it was born. Here it seeks out the deeper waters where the eggs are lain and fertlized. The old fish then dies as the new generation matures. |
